Herd Farm - fictional character descriptions with activities at Herd Farm as a stimulus

Oak Class used the photographs of Year 6’s visit to Herd Farm as a stimulus for their fictional writing in the style of Charles Dickens.

Here are some examples of their work.
Herd farm character description

Lazily, the exhausted, joyful girls lounged, whilst watching the hilarious Garfield Movie.”Hee, he, he!” chuckled Leearna and Casey at the fact they were having their picture taken like a celebrity being pursued by the press. All of them, with their teddies, were all snug and warm. The huddled, lazy girls cuddled underneath Casey’s brown, soft blanket.

Whilst they all squashed up like a tin of sardines, they all sucked their thumbs, (except for Megan).  Megan was probably curious why they were all sucking their thumbs. So she rudely started to make silly comments about them sucking their thumbs. Suddenly Tara responded with defensive jab.

The girls watched the movie in wonderment, but they were so tired from all the things (like the giant swing) that they had done that exciting, playful day. As tired as they were, they were still talking so Megan turned around, “Shh you guys!”, but they were already fast asleep like a bunch of squirrels hibernating in a tree.

Herd Farm Character Description By Tia and Tara

As happy as children on Christmas morning, the nervous but
excited pupils speedily walked down the newly polished steps, one by one . Time passed.  Tim thought excitedly it’s me next!
“Go on Tim you can do it !” shouted the other children.
“Lets get you clipped up,” boomed the instructor.

Suddenly Tim started to think about making it right to the top.  This made him excited rather than nervous.  Even though he seemed so confident, when he pulled the pin, Tim’s face looked utterly shocked until he relaxed on his first swing out.

“It looks really fun!” said Tara. Then all of a sudden she looked up at the giant swing frame and lost all confidence in her self.
“I can’t do it!” she murmured to herself.  “ I wanna go home!” she said but eventually she conquered her fear.

 Herd Farm character Description

Nervously, mad M stumped across the heavy  plank of wood with a full, black, dull, bucket of water. While M was doing this, determined D bumped into C and C knocked M over. Therefore M had to start all over again. Within minutes of starting again, M fell and broke her arm on the wooden plank.

When suddenly an ambulance turned up with its bright blue lights on, C unexpectedly announced “ What’s going on here then?” Mrs Brown muttered, “ M has broken her arm and is on her way home!” This story shall continue… …

The Moonwalk

The Year Six children of the small primary school (Ashfield) were at the fun, exiting Herd farm. They were on the exasperatingly, enjoyable `moonwalk’.  Enthusiastically, the kids quietly and quickly passed the small, milk crates to the front of the short line of top of school competitive Year Six pupils. They were thinking quietly to themselves, “Come on we can win.”
Therefore they sped up.
“Quick Tim pass the crate,” called Eli as loud as a tiger.
“There you go,” Tim quickly replied.
Eli’s face was full of concentration. Charlie’s looked like a monkey swinging under the tall wide bar.
“Yes we won!” cried Eli full of excitement.
